Indian desserts are famous all over the world especially "Gulaab Jamun". But this is the only one given as an example, there are many sweets like jalebi as national sweet, rasgulla, kaju barfi, thekua, khaja, laddu, etc. These all mithai are made on special occasion or especially on festivals. Mostly sweets are made of sugar/jaggery, rice flour, bundiya, milk, gram flour, etc. and also by using dry fruits. This is why sweets are the integral part of all celebrations.
Every state has their own famous sweet which are widely consumed by the people on celebration. But today we are going to know about one of the most special and sweetest dessert recipe that is the modak recipe.

Introduction of modak:
Special sweets are made on every festival and alike this, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, the most widely famous sweet of Maharashtra which is "Modak" made as bhog or prasad for Bhagwan Ganesha. Modak is made up of rice or wheat flour, sometimes milk powder is also used, sugar or jaggery, milk, grated coconut and for filling- dry fruits, khoa, chocolate are also used.So now, let's move on to modak recipe without wasting any time and with a smile & enthusiasm step by step.
-Steamed Ukadiche Modak Recipe
Prep. Time- 5-10 minutes
Cooking Time- 30-40minutes
Serving- 10-12 ( depends upon modak mould size)
-Ingredients of Steamed Ukadiche Modak Recipe:
Modak Recipe | Ukadiche Modak
Baking & Spices
• 1/2 tsp Cardamom, powder
• 2 cup Rice flour
• 1/2 tsp Salt(optional)
Nuts & Seeds
• 2 cup Coconut
Dairy
• 2 tsp Ghee clarified butter
Liquids
• 2 cup Water
Other
• 1 cup sugar/jaggery
-Process step by step of Steamed Ukadiche Modak Recipe:
Take a non-sticky pan or simply a kadhai.
Add grated coconut.
Saute them for 1min till the aromatic smell release.
Add jaggery or sugar.
Saute them on medium flame till jaggery melt.
Add cardamom powder around 1/2 tbsp.
Now your stuffing is ready.
Let's move to next step.
Clean the pan and place it on stove.
Add water, salt, ghee and let them boil for 1-2 boils.
Then add rice flour. Mix it gently and let water absorbed by rice flour.
Moist flour and stir them continuously to avoid burning. Turn off the flame.
Cover the pan by lid and leave for 4-5 min.
Now transfer them in a bowl and knead them with wet hand.
Add water if required.
Knead for 4-5 minutes.
Make a soft and smooth dough.
-To give the shape of modak by hand
Take a small piece of dough and shape in round like a ball.
Press them from inside to side on hand.
Create dent or simply roll it like a small chapatti then
Create pleats.
Add the stuffing inside it accordingly as required for fill the space.
Start bringing those pleats together and close the hole form bundle.
Now, it's ready to steam.
-simple method by using modak mould:
- Grease the modak mould with ghee.
- Close the mould and add the dough inside of it through the space.
- Press them towards the wall of mould by creating the hole.
- Add small ball size stuffing / filling inside it.
- To close the mould take small dough and fill it in the mould.
- Seal the bottom.
- Now open the mould. And like this make all the rest of modak.
For steaming:
Place the all uncooked modak in steamer.
Steam for 10-12 min.

Ghee- 3tbsp
Milk- 3tbsp
Milk Powder- 1cup
Sugar Powder- 1/2 cup
Saffron strands- 2pinch
Desiccated coconut- 3 tbsp
Chopped pista- 1.5 tbsp
Chopped almond- 1 tbsp
Chopped cashew nut- 1tbsp
Raisins- 1 tbsp
Cardamom powder- 1/2 tbsp
Milk- 1tbsp
Modak mould
-Method of Dry fruits modak recipe:
Take a kadhai or pan.
Add ghee. Let them melt or warm.
Then add milk on low flame. Stir them for 10-15 sec.
Add milk powder little by little while stirring continuously to avoid any lumps.
Cook them until start separating from pan.
Now in a bowl add saffron strands to soak into warm milk.
Then mix them in the mixture of pan.
After few second turn off the flame.
For the filling Dry fruits modak recipe:
In a medium shaped bowl add dessicated coconut, chopped pista, almond, cashew nut, raisins and cardamom powder.
Now mix them all well, then add 1tbsp milk and mix once again.
Your stuffing is prepared.
Let's move to the modak dough.
Do not let the dough cool completely, at least it feel warm to hand.
To shape the modak, take a modak mould.
Fill the dough inside and press them towards the wall of mould by making centre in mould.
Place the stuffing inside the could apace and close with the small part of dough.
Now demould /open the mould and take it it gently.
